At the end of the semester (after the sewing unit is over) students will work on this interior design project.
(50 Project Points) These days will be used to create a Dream Room design board that will include a room drafting plan, an elevation drawing, a description of the rooms style, and samples of design elements. Here is an example: 
Below are some resources for ideas and design elements: - DigsDigs-- A lot of new and funky design ideas. It does have a lot of advertising here, so just look at the pictures for ideas, don't click links that will take you off-site.
- Pottery Barn Teen-- Teenage decorating ideas and accessories.
- IKEA-- Great for simple furniture or decoration ideas.

Today we are going to talk about ways you can reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink when it comes to sewing and crafting. Here are just a few ideas: Now that you're class has watched how to reuse items to make other items it's time to test your creativity. In your table groups you need 1 piece of paper with EVERYONE's name on it. Then come up with a new idea on how to use the following items. (You can NOT use the same ideas listed above.) Items to REUSE: Plastic Soda Bottle Capri Sun Package Old T-shirts Your group should sketch what the final product will look like and write basic directions. |

Before sewing it is important that you know who will work on what machines and how to use the machines correctly. These videos will walk you through some of that information and then show you how to do the practice papers.

Some students will do sewing machine retakes today while others take their measurements and cut out their pajama pant patterns. If time allows students will also pin their patterns onto their fabric.

Wednesday, November 9, 201115 Classwork Points
Today some student retook their sewing machine test, while the majority of students worked on completing the Pattern Markings Worksheet so they could learn the different markings on patterns they will be using for their pajama pants. Students used the Pattern Information packets to help them complete the worksheet. |

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 35 Test Points
Today students will take the sewing machine test. Students will re-take the test until they receive a passing grade of an "A" on it to ensure they are ready to safely use the sewing machines. On Tuesday students will take a test over the different parts of the sewing machine. Students will be tested over the FCS 2 Sewing Rules and Procedures as well as the Sewing Machine Notes. Students will need to know all the definitions and be able to complete the diagram. Students must score a 35 or higher to move on to the sewing projects. Students will retake the test over and over until passing to ensure they know the information and will be safe on the sewing machine.

Students will be working in cooperative groups to complete a project in which they research a culture and then invite guests to come and sample 3 dishes they will prepare from that culture.
Students are graded based on a variety of rubrics and are given specific outlines and directions to follow in the Restaurant Packet. Each cooperative group will also be required to turn in a Restaurant Plan Report and a grocery list organized by grocery aisle. Students can use the Organized Grocery List Template to complete their grocery list.
