posted Nov 26, 2011, 3:43 PM by Kate Tracy

Today students learned how to thread the sewing machines and how to sew on the machines.  The week after Thanksgiving they will begin  demonstrating how to thread the machine to Mrs. Stucker and receive a bobbin.  Once they have a bobbin a student will wind the bobbin and sewing their Fish and Stitch Paper with thread.

Before sewing it is important that you know who will work on what machines and how to use the machines correctly.  These videos will walk you through some of that information and then show you how to do the practice papers.

Thursday and Friday, November 10 &11, 2011

Today we will review the FCS 1 Sewing Rules and Procedures as well as the Parts of the Sewing Machine.

On Tuesday students will take a test over the different parts of the sewing machine.  Students will be tested over the FCS 1 Sewing Rules and Procedures as well as the Sewing Machine Notes.  Students will need to know all the definitions and be able to complete the diagram.  Students must score a 35 or higher to move on to the sewing projects.  Students will retake the test over and over until passing to ensure they know the information and will be safe on the sewing machine.

100 Project Points

The Food Innovation Project is usually one of my student's favorite projects. Students are assigned the task of inventing a new food product and deciding how to market it.
The project is worth 100 points, but there are 180 points of options that students can choose from to get those 100 points. The rubric and resources pages can be found below or on FCS 1 File Cabinet page of this site.
We will work on this project for 5 days this week and work should be done by Friday. Next week students will be given the opportunity to do presentations for their peers or present food demonstrations and samples if they so choose.
Here are some website resourses students can use when creating their product:

Fajita Demonstration and Lab Planning

Tuesday and Wednesday, October 19-20, 2010
10 points Faijita Lab Planning Form

On Tuesday Mrs. Stucker will be demonstrating how to make the Fajitas Lab. We will be making Beef Fajitas. This is a great lab because it requires the use of so many of the skills we've learned this semester.  Students will be using the knife skills they've learned to cut vegetables and meat.  Students will use a variety of measurement skills to measure ingredients for the marinade.  Students will also use a thermometer to test the doneness of the meat.
